Are Nano Robots in Our Future?

Nanotech research is being conducted by a number of different scientific teams and industries to determine how Nanoscience can benefit such industries; a quick glance at nanotechnology news will give a reader a sense at how fast the industry is developing.  A new and emerging industry is identified in the fact that nano research is now focusing on the creation of nanorobotics.  Nanorobotics are basically miniscule robots created on a scale of nanometers, and these futuristic nanonoids, otherwise identified as nanobots and natites, are expected to be utilized in a variety of fields like that of engineering and medicine.
Nanoscience is pervading myriad industries and scientists are currently working on creating stain resistant fibers, water repelling swimwear, powered sunscreens, and drugs which target specific tissues once inside the body.  Now the field of nanotech research has delved into the realm of robotics and the latest discoveries are proving promising.  While nanorobots may seem far off into the distant future, the existence of nanorobots isn’t as far off as it may first appear. 

Nanorobotic medicine is a field that is fast evolving and already some nanites have been created.  There exists a nanomachine which is capable of locating cancer cells within the human body and later destroying such cells.  Currently in the nanotech research phase are nanorobots that are capable of detecting various toxins and environmental hazards as well.  Further, a single molecule car has been created by nanotech researchers from the William Marsh Rice University in Texas, with environmental temperature controlling abilities as well as the ability to position a microscope tip.
Nanorobotics involves nanotech research that focuses on the engineering and/or computational simulation of robots via nano scale measurements as well as nanorobotics that involve the direct manipulation of objects on a nano scale.  The latter process is done via the use of high tech microscopic equipment.  Clearly many scientists are making incredible discoveries in the field of nanotechnology.
So, if nanotechnology and Nanoscience are not new sciences, why does it take so long to hear about some of the ongoing findings and discoveries being made in the realms of nanotechnology information and research?  In truth, when discoveries and nanotechnology information are revealed in academic, scientific, and/or medical journals, much of the “new” nanotechnology news is already old nanotechnology news.  The publishing process delays the release of the latest findings and nanotechnology information and the field of nanotechnology, as well as nanorobotics specifically, is evolving so quickly, it is near impossible to keep up with the latest discoveries in printed publications. Thus, what we know of nanorobotics now may not be the case at all, since newer advances have already been made since the latest nanotech reporting publications have been released.
